CONTEXT
We believe creators deserve tools that empower their creative expression while streamlining their workflow. The MX Creative Console was born out of this belief—a device designed specifically to help creators and innovators maximize efficiency and focus, allowing them to do what they do best: create.
In today's fast-paced creative environments, managing multiple software tools and their myriad shortcuts can be overwhelming. This cognitive overload can slow down creativity and disrupt focus. The MX Creative Console addresses these challenges by offering a seamless, customizable interface that puts your favorite software shortcuts at your fingertips.
ROLE
As a UX designer on the MX Creative Console project, my focus was specifically on enhancing the keypad experience. My primary responsibilities included developing the visual language and design guidelines for the nine keys, as well as refining the customization experience within Logitech’s Logi Options+ software.
Additionally, I contributed to key interactions, such as opening folder elements and representing page-switching on the device. A significant challenge involved visually connecting analog actions—like adjusting image brightness—with the physical rotation of the console’s dial. Through multiple iterations, we initially explored animated slider representations on the keys. However, due to project scope limitations, we opted for a static circular cutout design around the key, balancing functionality with feasibility.
DESIGN SYSTEM
I was tasked with defining a comprehensive approach to visually represent actions, developing a cohesive design system, and breaking down the various states for each action type. These actions span digital, analog, and folder-based functionalities. The objective was to establish universal design principles and layout options, enabling users to customize their keys according to their preferences.
Each application compatible with the MX Creative Console features its own distinct color scheme. To provide maximum flexibility, instead of restricting users to a predefined icon library, we implemented functionality allowing users to upload custom images tailored to their specific needs.
LOGI OPTIONS+
A central focus of the project was the customization of the device within Logi Options+. The core purpose of this device is to provide users with complete flexibility, allowing them to assign any desired action, shortcut, or macro to the keys.
The design challenge lay in integrating this advanced level of customization into our existing software, which was originally designed for simpler interactions, such as assigning basic functions to a few buttons on a mouse or keyboard. To address this, I proposed new interaction models, including drag-and-drop functionality, to enhance intuitiveness and ergonomics.
Additionally, I developed the onboarding flows for both devices and designed animated illustrations to improve user comprehension and streamline the setup process.
